• Always use your dog's name before your command.
• Be Switzerland
• Use your words first, then wait
• You are not making a suggestion, but giving instructions that are to be followed.
• Place dog if need be.

Your Reactive Dog

• Find how much "personal space" your dog needs before feeling the need to act out, and stay in it.
• Look for your dog's "tell" and once found, redirect your dog before you see the signal.
• When your dog is going "over the top", don't add anything more.
• When in doubt; WAIT
• When under control;  COME AROUND and FINISH

What We Learned In Class Today

1. A long WAIT is hard work for both dog and owner.

Look at the dog's leash, not the dog, to figure out if his or her WAIT is true.  A SIT or STAND or DOWN is OK. Even a bit of a wander, as long as lead is loose. If not pop correct.

 2.  Redirect out of control behavior with a COME AROUND to  FINISH, if possible.

Practice "Waiting for Godot" on the corner - daily

3/10/12 - Puppies must learn to focus on instructions
